Get To Know STADS

The Data Science Initiative at the University of Mannheim

Our offer is aimed at students with a quantitative background at the University of Mannheim. We provide our members with broad and professional training in the fields of data analysis and machine learning. To this end, we offer programming courses in Python, R and SQL every semester, for which we use both internal and external instructors.

This training is supplemented by extensive practical work. Together with our cooperation partners, we work on various real-world challenges in workshops. Advanced members help companies, public institutions and researchers with temporary projects.

The Work of STADS

Every association is only as strong as its members, which is why the commitment of our active STADS members is particularly important to us. With the support of experienced board members and department heads, you can take on responsibility in a department at an early stage, learn new things and contribute to STADS’ success as part of a team.

STADS is divided into six departments, all of which take on important tasks for the association. From discussions with companies in the cooperation department to critical decisions about our infrastructure in the IT department, each department offers exciting insights into the life of the association and lots of fun at joint events.

IT

In addition to day-to-day operational tasks such as content and license management, the IT department is also responsible for the ongoing development of the website. The members of the IT department ensure that all technical issues run smoothly.

Marketing

We at Marketing want to get as many students as possible excited about STADS and our events. Our daily tasks therefore include shaping our social media channels and promoting events online and on campus.

Education

In the Education department, we plan the STADS education program. Among other things, we organize the public programming courses at the University of Mannheim and work on new topics for exciting seminars.

Finance

The Finance department enables the board and members to gain a quick overview of the association’s financial situation. To this end, incoming invoices are checked, outgoing invoices are prepared and the bookkeeping is maintained on this basis.

Teambuilding

In the team building department, we take care of the structure surrounding the acquisition of new members. We also develop concepts to strengthen team spirit and implement these in the form of various events, among other things.

The Datathon department is responsible for the organization and preparation of the Datathon, which takes place every semester. In addition to acquiring companies as challenge providers, the department also develops the program and promotes the event to students.
